What FileLean Does FileLean is a Chrome extension that converts documents (PDF, DOCX, XLSX, PPTX) into clean, lightweight Markdown text, so you can paste them into Claude, ChatGPT, or any AI chat more efficiently. What Data We Process When you use FileLean to convert a document, the file you select (or the document at a URL you’re viewing) is sent to our backend server for processing. What We Do NOT Do
We do not store your files. Documents are processed in memory and immediately discarded after conversion. Nothing is written to a database or retained after your request completes. We do not log file contents. Our server logs contain only basic technical metadata (such as request timestamps and status codes) required for operating the service — never the actual text or contents of your documents. We do not share your data with third parties. Your documents are not sold, shared, or used for any purpose other than generating the Markdown conversion you requested. We do not track you. FileLean does not use analytics, advertising trackers, or third-party cookies.
How the Conversion Works Your document is sent over HTTPS to our server, converted into Markdown text, and the result is returned directly to your browser. The converted text is then available for you to copy — FileLean does not automatically send your content anywhere else (including to Claude, ChatGPT, or Anthropic) unless you personally choose to paste it there yourself. We do not request access to your browsing history, other websites’ content, or any data unrelated to document conversion. Data Retention Because files are processed transiently and never stored, there is no retained data to delete. Each conversion exists only for the duration of that single request.
